When the Walking Dead premiered on October 31, 2010–just in time for the Halloween–it immediately gained a loyal following, one that continues to grow with every season premiere. The Walking Dead was celebrated because it focused less on the tropes that defined zombie horror at that time such as running and shooting, and more on building tension and drama, which is one of the reasons why the show is so well-received by viewers and critics alike.

So when it was announced at the New York Comic Con in 2013 that Outcast, one of Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s other works, is getting its own TV adaptation, critics and viewers couldn’t help but have high expectations for the show. With Walking Dead setting the bar higher for TV horror, Outcast is expected to have the right components to do the same, if not better.

Outcast is a horror drama based on the comics of the same name. It revolves around a man named Kyle Barnes, whose loved ones have been experiencing chronic bouts of demonic possession his entire life. Enlisting the aid of a reverend after his wife gets possessed by demons, Kyle soon discovers that he actually has the ability to exorcise demons with just a single touch.

The first season of Outcast is set to premiere on June 3 on Cinemax. The pilot episode was screened at the SXSW Film Festival last March, months ahead of the TV debut. UK-based publication The Telegraph UK called the show a “compulsively creepy hit” and gave the screened episode 4 out of 5 stars. Entertainment Weekly said it shook the SXSW audience, while Collider described it as “harrowing and emotional.”

If you’re dying to know if the show is worth all the hype that it’s been getting, or if you’re curious to see how the series will be received by viewers and critics, then you surely don’t want to miss the first episode.

Where to watch the pilot episode of Outcast

If you’re a resident of the US who is subscribed to Cinemax, you can catch the season premiere on Cinemax on June 3 at 22:00 EST. The series will also be available on Cinemax’s app MAX GO, which can be accessed if you have a Cinemax subscription.

The first episode is now available on YouTube, providing prospective viewers a good first look at this promising series. Unfortunately, this option is for US residents only; if you don’t live in the US, you will not be able to access the video under normal circumstances.

To watch it, you will need to unblock it, either via a website proxy server or a virtual private network (VPN), which you can download for free. If you had to pick between the two, the better choice of course would be a VPN. Unlike proxy servers, where the information that you send merely goes through an intermediary, VPN passes all information through an encrypted tunnel, replacing your IP address and making the experience more secure.

Hotspot Shield VPN for accessing blocked content

Hotspot Shield is one of the most trusted VPNs today, and installing it on your device, whether it’s a laptop, tablet or smartphone, will allow you to access US-restricted content such as the first episode of Outcast. You can also install the app as an extension for your Firefox or Chrome browser.

Unblocking restricted US content is made possible by one key feature of Hotspot Shield VPN: access to a US server. When using Hotspot Shield free, your device is automatically given a US IP address, making it look like you are browsing from a US location. This new IP address additionally enables you to browse online safely and anonymously, which provides a safer online session. Get Hotspot Shield for free now:

Other features of Hotspot Shield VPN

The free app also has a number of additional features that make it a must for your device. Aside from unhindered US content access, Hotspot Shield VPN also lets you unblock your favorite sites such as Youtube and Facebook by allowing you to bypass your network’s filters and firewalls.

Using Hotspot Shield also means you don’t have to worry about hackers and spies monitoring your online activities. First, it secures your sensitive data such as messages, passwords, and bank transactions by providing an encrypted tunnel to protect them from unwanted access. When you connect to public hotspots such as the Wi-Fi at the nearest Starbucks, Hotspot Shield also protects you from other users who can potentially spy on your online session.
Outcast is easily one of the most anticipated horror dramas of 2016, and you can be among the first fans of the series.
