The Internet may be the greatest invention in history. It definitely is the most mind boggling invention in history.

Imagine describing fire to someone in the year 46 AD. Now imagine describing fire to someone in the year 2150 AD. Doesn’t seem difficult, right? Now imagine describing the Internet to someone in 46 AD, 1500AD, or even 1900!

It’s almost impossible.

We’ve come a long way, and the internet has come along even more. You wouldn’t believe the changes the online world has seen in the last 10 years alone.

For example:

  • There are 2.2 billion Internet users in the world now.
  • Friendster was the #1 social network in 2002 with 3 million users. Facebook is the #1 social network in the world in 2012 with over 900 million users.
  • The average page took 16 seconds to load in 2002. Today it takes around 2 seconds.
