Our Commitment to Net Neutrality and Your Internet Freedom

Our Commitment to Net Neutrality and Your Internet Freedom

December 14, 2017 will be remembered as the day when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the organization that was created to promote and support the freedom of communication in America, abandoned its mission and turned against its very purpose.

Today, the majority of FCC commissioners voted to repeal the Net Neutrality protections that guaranteed many of our essential freedoms: of information, of speech, of enterprise, and the freedom to choose what products and services we use.

Countless millions of dollars spent by corporate lobbyists have done their job: the FCC decided to ignore the overwhelming feedback from tens of millions of Americans, dozens of members of Congress, numerous civil rights organizations, technology leaders and experts, and voted to repeal Net Neutrality.

What does this mean for 290 million internet users in America? A lot of things, and none of them are good. The repeal of Net Neutrality will let internet service providers charge you more for your internet usage, add compulsory cable TV subscription, impose surcharges for watching video online, and limit or block your usage of certain resources (such as online services owned by their competitors).

At AnchorFree we have been enabling Internet Freedom for millions of users in countries that censor the internet. We believe in providing people with simple solutions to protect their freedom online. We want to disrupt the ability of Internet Service Providers to censor, block or slow down access to any websites and applications even more. That is why we are now making our unique Internet Freedom technology available to all app developers for free via AnchorFree’s Software Development Kit – which we are calling the Net Neutrality Survival Kit. Any app developers can easily protect their apps from Internet Service Providers (ISPs) trying to throttle performance or collect user data by implementing the Hotspot Shield Net Neutrality SDK for free.

Most companies address net neutrality as a policy issue; we are responding to the challenge by launching a real technology solution that can be used by app developers to protect their service and their users. No matter what decisions government officials have made today, the private sector can self-regulate and ensure a free and open Internet for millions of Americans.

Developers can download the AnchorFree SDK for free at https://developer.anchorfree.com.

While the repeal of Net Neutrality may stifle technology innovation, and make it much harder for the breakthrough online services of tomorrow to proliferate, we believe that technology companies can provide easy to use solutions for every user and every app developer to take control over their freedom online.

Today, we pledge that we will not stop fighting for Net Neutrality and your inalienable rights and freedoms. We will keep working with our friends at the Electronic Frontier Foundation and other advocacy groups, with conscientious policymakers, with our fellow technology leaders, and with everyone else who is willing to lend a hand in restoring Net Neutrality in America.

We will keep providing our award-winning Hotspot Shield app for free to everyone who needs to bypass internet roadblocks imposed by internet providers and other organizations. Our apps are already being used by 500 million people around the world to avoid censorship and access online services blocked by unscrupulous governments and corporations. Now that this fight has come to our soil, we are fully prepared for it. You can always download the latest version of Hotspot Shield apps for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac here.

Sincerely yours,

The AnchorFree Team
