5 Netflix Shows to Watch Out For This July

July is the hottest month of the year almost everywhere in the US, except for cities in the Pacific Coast like San Francisco and San Diego. This means it’s a perfect time to stay home with the air conditioner on and catch up on some TV.

Netflix has some great original shows on offer for July, and we’ve picked the best ones for you to watch out for.

  • GLOW

Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) is about a group of female professional wrestlers in 1980’s Los Angeles. It’s a comedy-drama that stars Alison Brie (of Mad Men fame) as Ruth Wilder, a largely unsuccessful actress who becomes a professional wrestler after stumbling onto an audition for a startup female wrestling promotion.

It premiered last June 23 to rave reviews and currently has a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Alison Brie has also been praised for her standout performance, so this show is sure to be a delight.

  • Ozark

Premiering on July 21, this 10-episode drama series was created by Bill Dubuque. It’s led by Jason Bateman and Laura Linney who play married couple Marty and Wendy Byrde, respectively.

Marty, a financial advisor, decides to move his entire family from their Chicago neighborhood to the Missouri Ozarks after his dealings with a Mexican drug cartel go sideways.

  • Last Chance U

This documentary series first premiered on July 29, 2016 to positive reviews. It centers around the American football team of the East Mississippi Community College and their struggles on and off the field.

This captivating docu-drama will have its second season premiere on July 21 and will show another year in the life of the EMCC Lions, including their coach Buddy Stephens and their academic advisor Brittany Wagner.

  • The Standups

If you’re a fan of standup comedy, you’ll love this series for sure. The show consists of six 30-minute episodes and each one features a different up-and-coming, talented standup comedian.

The Standups was filmed in the Cicada Restaurant and Club in Los Angeles, CA, and showcases the standup acts of comedians Nate Bargatze, Fortune Feimster, Deon Cole, Nikki Glaser, and Beth Sterling. It premiered on July 4.

  • Castlevania

Based on the video game and pop-culture icon of the same name (more specifically Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse), this adult animated series is sure to please video game and animé fans alike.

Richard Armitage —who gained worldwide recognition as Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit — voices Trevor Belmont, the last living member of a family of demon hunters. He must do battle with Dracula for the fate of the people of Wallachia.

Castlevania premiered on July 7 and garnered positive reviews, getting a second season extension the very same day!
