Which Cities in the U.S. Have the Highest Per Capita VPN Usage?[Infographic]

We recently analyzed the data on the per capita use of our Hotspot Shield VPN service in the U.S. and discovered some surprising findings.

So who is the most concerned about online privacy and security? Tourist destinations and state capitals along with several Florida metro areas ranked high on the list.

As the infographic below reveals, surprising findings for US cities with a population of 100,000 or more ranked by VPN use include:

  • 4 of the top 10 cities with the highest per capital use of  Hotspot Shield VPN are in Florida. Florida is a major tourist destination and it also has the highest per capita cyber fraud and identity theft in the US according to the 2012 Federal Trade Commission fraud report.
  • 7 of the top 20 are state capitals.
  • Top travel destinations such as Orlando, San Francisco, and Orlando ranked within the top 25
